Situation Report: Another landslide hit Surigao del Norte, killed 5 miners in Placer

Due to days of excessive rain, another landslide hit in the municipality of Placer, particularly in Barangay Magsaysay, a few minutes away from the town proper where the mining site of Manila Mining Corporation is located yesterday dawn, Nov. 19, 2007 and killed 5 miners.

The victims were identified as Malenci Makas, Diosdado Leproso, Luigi Manto, Rodulfo Tuyor and Rodolfo Ragas.

It was learned that the victims were sleeping in a bunkhouse and was swept away by a flashflood.

RDCC reports bared that a continuous heavy rains starting on Saturday until early Monday might have loosened the soil and caused the tunnel to collapse.

Rescue 44 of the province retrieved 5 dead persons and 2 survivors. As of press time, the dead bodies were already turned-over to Placer Mayor Chary Mangacop.
